Katie Tuck joins UFV as new Chief Information Officer

Katie Tuck has been selected as UFV’s new Chief Information Officer (CIO).

Tuck joins UFV from Yukon University where she served as Director of IT and Chief Information Officer. Tuck’s career has spanned the globe, from her birthplace in the UK to Houston, Texas, and other locations across the United States and Canada.

She brings strong experience leading enterprise-level information technology services, including infrastructure, enterprise applications, networking, classroom technology, telecommunications, and security.

“It’s such an exciting time to take on the role of CIO as we begin to operationalize the new strategic plan. The pandemic has really highlighted the digital divide in terms of equitable access to technology and digital literacy, so I look forward to tackling some of these tough challenges as we work to provide inclusive learning environments for everyone,” says Tuck.

During her time at Yukon University, she led a cross-functional team in the implementation of online registration, making the university the first territorial post-secondary institution to offer a self-serve option for students — an essential piece of infrastructure in these digital times. She was also instrumental in supporting the transition from Yukon College to Yukon University and in the recent pivot to remote work and distance education.

Tuck has experience at the national level strategizing and implementing digital research infrastructure and high-speed network connectivity as a territorial partner in Canada’s National Research and Education Network, and as an active member of the Canadian University Council of Chief Information Officers (CUCCIO).

Prior to joining UFV, Tucks’s career progressed through technical, project management, and supervisory IT roles. She has led diverse IT teams and managed projects ranging in complexity and size from $250K to $12M. She has a strong track record of collaborative, inclusive leadership and for building engaged and high-performance teams.

Tuck sees a bright future at UFV. “What attracted me to UFV was the student-centred focus of the institution and as technology is integrated into all aspects of our lives, I am looking forward to collaborating with stakeholders across the UFV community to provide innovative solutions that support our faculty, staff, researchers, and students.”

Tuck holds a Bachelor of Arts, Management (Honours) from the University of Hull, UK, along with ITIL Foundation certificate and Information Access & Protection of Privacy Fundamentals. She is currently completing the Senior University Administrators Course (SUAC) through the University of Manitoba. In her spare time, she enjoys skiing, mountain biking, hiking, cooking, and spending time with her husband Leonard & 4-year-old son Tristan.
