Meet the Panelists:
MAUVEY — musical artist and songwriter
Born in Ghana, West Africa, and raised between the U.K. and Vancouver, artist and songwriter Mauvey filters his unique batch of alternative music with hip hop, R&B/soul, and 80s inspired synth-wave always alongside his message: Love. The Chilliwack artist designs his projects to distribute Love through the creative narratives of intentional songwriting, intelligent melody, and hypnotic beat, and received top honour at the 2020 Fraser Valley Music Awards.
JASMIN KAUR — Writer, illustrator, poet
Spoken-word artist, writer, and UFV alum Jasmin Kaur has toured North America, the U.K., and Australia to connect with youth through the power of artistic expression. Her debut poetry collection (When You Ask Me Where I’m Going) and sophomore novel (If I Tell You the Truth) explore themes of feminism, womanhood, social justice, love, healing, and reclaiming identity, earning her praise as “a rising star” by Vogue Magazine and “Writer to Watch” by CBC Books.
PEGGY JANICKI — Indigenous educator
Peggy Janicki (Dakelh First Nation) is an Indigenous mentor, teacher, and curriculum developer with Mission Public Schools, holding a Master’s of Education in Indigenous Knowledges and Pedagogies from UBC. As a facilitator with the BC Teachers’ Federation (BCTF), Janicki has supported many educators and students across B.C. and Canada with Indigenizing their classrooms. She has taught subjects ranging from math and history to social studies, psychology, emotional literacy, and social justice.
