Seeking 2 Performers for Pariah (The Outcast) by August Strindberg. Pariah(The Ourcast) is a thrilling Darwinian battle of survival between the minds of two criminals with contrasting moral beliefs.

An archeologist meets an American traveller in a country house. The archeologist’s secret is revealed that at a young age he murdered a man but was never caught, and he tries to convince the American traveller why it was fair to avoid punishment. On the contrary, the American traveller was sent to prison for being accused of forging a document to secure a loan, and believes that his punishment was unjust.

In a Darwinian battle of survival, the American traveller threatens to share the secret, and demands for gold as a bribe from the archeologist’s box. This tense story escalates while the two characters create their own moralities in a Nietzschean conversation.

Performers with a wide-range of talents are encouraged to audition!
Casting is gender neutral.

What is it like working on a virtual theatre production?

“Being a part of UFV Theatre is like finding a family, a home away from home, in which you can be yourself and push your boundaries. Theatre is the perfect medium for storytelling, social commentary, artistic expression, and historical critique. It’s really been exciting to explore the new medium of a live-stream theatre performance, even during the challenging times of a global pandemic.” — UFV Theatre student Mar Bolton-Gerow.

Audition Requirements:
Prepare a 2-minute piece (monologue, song, dance, spoken word, etc.) that showcases your strengths as a performer. Auditions will be held via zoom.

Please dress in comfortable clothes that will allow you to move.

If cast, the performer commits to being available for rehearsals from January 15 to March 23; and a performance run from March 24-17, 2020. Rehearsals will be on Mondays from 3-6pm, Tuesdays and Fridays from 5:30-8:30pm, and Saturdays from 10-3pm. The exact dates and times of tech and performance calls, will be published with the production schedule. All work on this production will be conducted virtually.

Those auditioning will be asked to fill out an audition form, outlining previous performance experience and training as well as work, school, and personal schedule between January and March. While all students of the UFV community are welcome to audition, please note that casting priority is given to those enrolled in UFV’s theatre program.
