Did you know that exercise can make your brain bigger (literally!) and lead to increased verbal and non-verbal memory?
Have you considered that something as simple as leaving your lunch in the car, thus creating an excuse to take a midday walk, is an effective way to infuse exercise into a busy schedule?
And did you know that optimum water consumption (2.2 litres/day for women, 3 litres for men) not only keeps you hydrated, but also fills you up so you’re not as hungry?
Those are just a few of the educational and inspirational tidbits available at the UFV Campus Recreation health and wellness blog (ufvcascades.ca/rec/wellnessblog/).
Written by UFV kinesiology student Alysha Harper and edited by Envision Athletic Centre operations coordinator Cheryl Van Nes, each blog entry serves up wisdom to enrich your wellness pursuits, whether you’re in the gym daily or just getting started on the road to fitness.
“I like to share my knowledge with others because I enjoy helping people live their lives to the fullest,” Harper said. “And exercise and good health can help with that.”
The health/wellness blog is just one reason to check out the UFV Campus Rec website (ufvcascades.ca/rec/). It features a wealth of information on the recreational opportunities available to UFV students, staff and faculty – including tournaments, drop-in sports, fitness classes, facility booking and much more.
Facility hours for the Envision Athletic Centre and Student Activity Centre during the summer are Monday to Friday 8 am to 8 pm, Saturdays and Sundays 12 pm to 4 pm, and closed on stat holidays. Planning for Fall 2015 recreational programming is currently underway.
