Promoting bike frame course leads to new passion for Massier

Massier bike
Karen Massier designed and built this bike.

Karen Massier, partnership and continuing education coordinator for UFV Applied and Technical Studies, got so intrigued by the Bike Framebuilding program that she helps to promote that she ended up enrolling as a student, learning from the legendary Paul Brodie.

She has now built two bike frames and her second one won Best in Show and Best Custom Bicycle at the Spring National Cruiser and Show and Shine in Richmond.

“This is my second bicycle frame that I have made,” says Karen. “I wanted to make a pretty bicycle but functional as well. All of my  welding skills I learned from the Bikeframe 101 course that Paul Brodie teaches at UFV. The bicycle will be on display at the UFV Show and Shine.”

Karen invites everyone to come to UFV’s Bicycle Show and Shine on Sat, May 30 from 11 am to 2 pm at the UFV Aerospace Centre, 30645 Firecat Avenue, Abbotsford. You can meet Framebuilding 101 instructor Paul Brodie, check out the bike gear swap meet, and win prizes for best bikes. There will also be a $2 bike toss (winner gets the pot).
