Dr. Peter Raabe of the Philosophy department was invited to present at the 6th International Conference on Humanities Therapy in South Korea this summer. The field of humanities therapy includes art, music, poetry, philosophy and other forms of therapy.
Raabe was invited to speak about the use of philosophy in mental healthcare. The theme of the conference was the pros and cons of formal diagnosing in mental healthcare. Participants came from Japan, the Netherlands, the United States, Canada, and Korea.
The first day of the conference consisted of lectures, formal responses to those lectures, and questions from the audience, and a banquet. The second day consisted of workshops, and then a formal summary meeting of the Korean Association of Humanities Therapy, at which the foreign presenters were asked for their perspective on improving therapy for mental health in Korea by means of their respective approaches.
