The UFV Cascades men’s volleyball team (7-15) needed some wins last weekend against the Camosun College Chargers (13-9) to keep in the playoff hunt. Despite a tenacious Friday effort, the Cascades dropped a five-set decision to the Chargers (20-25, 25-18, 11-25, 25-19, 11-15) that was aggravated by a 1-3 loss on Saturday (18-25, 17-25, 25-18, 15-25). UFV is now out of the postseason picture and will finish up their season next weekend against the CBC Bearcats.
The UFV Cascades women’s volleyball team (19-3) swept Camosun (12-10) in straight sets, taking Friday 25-17, 25-22, 25-12, and Saturday 27-25, 25-17, 25-19. Krista Hogenwoning improved to third among PACWEST Total Offense Leaders with an average of 3.88 points per set.
“A job well done tonight by our ladies,” said Cascades head coach Dennis Bokenfohr after Saturday’s game. “We made the most of our opportunities against a team that was serving very well. Camosun has always been a team that has played us tough, and it was clear that our team put in a focused effort and was well prepared.”
The women will also take on CBC next weekend to close out the regular season.
