UFV Cascades sports report, Nov 11-16

The UFV Cascades women’s basketball team, ranked third in the CIS top ten poll, swept the University of Victoria Vikes on the weekend, 68-55, on Friday and 77-61 on Saturday to improve their Canada West regular season record to 4-0 in the Pacific Division of Canada West. The Cascades were led by Sarah Wierks of Chilliwack with 40 points and 20 rebounds. UFV hosts Mount Royal Cougars (1-3 in Pacific Division) this weekend at the Envision Athletic Centre.

The UFV Cascades men’s basketball team (2-2 in Pacific Division) were swept by the University of Victoria Vikes, this past weekend, falling 70-65 on Friday and 74-55, on Saturday. UFV was led by  Kadeem Willis with 21 points on Friday and Klaus Figueredo with 18 points and 3 rebounds on Saturday.  UFV hosts Mount Royal Cougars this weekend at Envision Athletic Centre. The Cougars are 2-2 and in a five-way tie with UFV and three other schools for second place in the Pacific Division.

UFV Cascades teaming up with Abbotsford Heat this weekend to assist the Abbotsford Food Bank  

The UFV Cascades and Abbotsford Heat are teaming up to fight hunger in the Fraser Valley.  The Heat and Cascades will be holding food drives both nights this weekend at the Envision Athletic Centre. All UFV Cascades fans who bring non-perishable items ($5 value) will receive a free ticket to the basketball doubleheader either night. Come out and meet Hawkey and Sasq’ets and help fight hunger. All donations go to the Abbotsford Food Bank.   www.abbotsfordfoodbank.com

In addition, anyone donating on Friday Night to the food bank will also be entered into a contest to win an Abbotsford Heat fan pack and autographed game-used stick.
The women’s volleyball team, ranked number one in CCAA top ten poll,  travel to North Vancouver this weekend to face the Capilano University Blues.  UFV sports a prefect 8-0 record after sweeping VIU this past weekend by scores of 3-0 and 3-2.  The UFV Cascades men’s volleyball team fell to 3-5 with a pair of losses to the VIU Mariners, 3-0 and 3-1, on the weekend.  UFV also faces Capilano Blues this weekend in North Vancouver.
