UFV Applied and Technical Studies hosting Makermeet on Sept 19

The UFV Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies is working towards establishing a Makerspace at the Trades & Technology Centre (TTC) to serve the Chilliwack area.
“The Makerspace movement, a quick web search will have you enthused and motivated to become engaged with community members of all ages and kinds, inventing, creating, and bringing their ideas to physical reality,” said John English, Dean of Applied and Technical Studies.
After working with Dereck Dirom of GearBots Educational Resources over the past few months, UFV will offer a series of events that introduce young people to robotics and writing code to make them work.
“We are preparing for summer camps and a series of weekend open access events at TTC that engage inventive minds who want to create and build things with the help of mentors and our amazing machinery and tools,” said English.
On Sat, Sept 19 at 3 pm, UFV is hosting its first Makermeet.
“This is an opportunity to learn more about our plans and see how you might shape the initiative and be involved, learn about the capabilities of TTC and meet creative people who are leading this movement. Community members from all over the lower mainland are already signed on to attend. We’ll host a small barbecue and enjoy a good discussion about where this idea can go,” says English.Check it out here.
