Long takes on associate dean role with ATS
UFV’s Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies (ATS) is welcoming Dr. Lin Long as its new Associate Dean. She takes on the new role in May.
Long has been at UFV since 2010, when she started her post-secondary teaching career as a sessional instructor. She became an associate professor and chair of the Engineering Physics diploma in Mechatronics program in 2014 and is currently head of the Physics department.
“I am constantly inspired and amazed by our students, staff, and faculty members in ATS,” Long says. “They have been supportive and helped me over the years, and this new role gives me an opportunity to pay back. I am excited to take a more active role in a broader engagement within ATS and beyond. I very much look forward to working with and supporting our faculty and staff to achieve our common goals.”
Long holds a BA of Applied Science degree in Electrical Engineering, an MA in Applied Computer Technology, and a PhD in Electrical Engineering. She has conducted applied research projects in robotics, agricultural and industrial automation, and medical devices.
Long has worked in Chilliwack as a professional engineer at IMW Industries. Before coming to Canada, she worked in a motor design and manufacturing company and taught and conducted research in the School of Automation at Wuhan University of Technology.
“Lin will bring her strong academic and professional background to her new role,” says Teresa Kisilevich, Dean of the Faculty of Applied and Technical Studies. “With a deep understanding of university policies and procedures, and connections throughout our faculty, Lin will be an exceptional addition to the ATS dean team.”
