Process

UFV is conducting its visioning process in three parts.

1 Assemble Visioning Committees (Fall 2018)

Our visioning process is led by UFV president and vice-chancellor Joanne MacLean. Two committees will support this work: a visioning working group and a visioning steering committee.

Visioning Working Group

The Visioning Working Group was appointed in September with the mandate of assisting the president in developing the visioning process and providing logistical support in carrying out the consultation process. The working group includes the following people:

Visioning Steering Committee

The Visioning Steering Committee was appointed in November with the mandate of deliberating on input provided by the community and advising the president on the content of UFV’s mission, values and vision. The steering committee consists of two members from each of the following stakeholder groups: students, faculty, staff and administrators, alumni, community partners. Steering committee members include the following people:

2 Define UFV’s Mission and Values (Fall 2018)

Starting in October, we will focus on the task of defining our mission and values, getting at the root of who we are as well as the core beliefs that guide our decision-making and conduct.

The first community conversation about mission and vision will be conducted through an online forum called thoughtexchange, a Canada-based digital tool that has been used by several BC universities. In thoughtexchange, we will ask you to tell us what you think our most important values are and we’ll ask for your ideas for a short and inspiring mission statement. Thoughtexhange participants will be able to review and star these ideas, indicating the thoughts that resonate most. The thoughtexchange forum on values and mission will run until mid-November, after which the working group will collect and present the data for the consideration of the steering committee. If the initial consultation results in common themes from the community, the president will announce our new mission and values statement. If further consultation is required, we will run another thoughtexchange forum or some other kind of consultative process.

3 Create UFV’s Vision (Winter 2019)

Starting in January, we will gather input on the many possible future directions UFV could pursue, using feedback to create a clear vision for our future that will inspire all UFV community members. For the community conversation on vision, we will convene facilitated, face-to-face sessions in addition to thoughtexchange during the months of January and February, with the goal of unveiling the vision in March.
