UFV is pausing the vast majority of classes and educational opportunities for one week, and transitioning to remote learning until Jan 23. Almost all classes that were scheduled to begin Jan 4 will now begin Jan 10. Remote learning will start on Mon, Jan 10 and continue through Sun, Jan 23. This transition has also been recommended by the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Training, and supported by B.C.’s Public Health Officer.
A small number of programs and courses will start the week of January 4. Start dates for these programs will be communicated by academic units to those impacted.
Campuses will remain open, including student housing, student services, and all libraries. Students will be able to access campus services as of Jan 4.
Some courses, including those with clinical or other experiential components, will continue in-person with appropriate safety protocols in place on Jan 10. Faculties and academic units will provide further details on specific programs and courses before their start date. Events on campus will be postponed until Jan 24 or canceled. Students with questions regarding their classes are encouraged to contact their instructors.
Administrators, staff, and academic support faculty will resume work as scheduled on Tues, Jan 4.
Is the semester being shortened or are we losing the reading break or is the semester going later for a week?
Hi, Chris. We don’t have those details yet, but will provide an update as soon as we can.
So will Biology labs begin on January 10th?
Hi Aaron,
Please double check with your professor, but most classes and labs are paused until Monday Jan 10.
Will the rest of our semester be confirmed (online or in-person & semester length) BEFORE fees are due? Students deserve to know what they are paying for to decide if they want to take classes this semester.
Hi Lindy,
Yes, we will do our absolute best to bring you the information you need to make decisions before deadlines. As you can appreciate, this is a rapidly changing situation and UFV will always act to keep student and faculty health and well-being at the top of the priority list.
Does this include upgrading classes that were scheduled as online only in the first place? Or would those still be able to go ahead on Jan 5th as they were already online?
Hello and happy new year Nicole. Most classes – online and in person are paused until January 10.

The classes those were already online starting from 4 jan are also going to begin on 10 jan now ?
Hi Mehak, great question.

Does this included the trades classes?
Hi Brandon – unless you have heard otherwise from your trades instructors then it does apply.
Hi Darren, is there a list of all the open classes?
Hi, Amanda. Not currently, but the vast majority of classes are now scheduled to start online Monday, Jan 10. If you’re unsure of your start date, please contact your instructor.
What about nursing? No one from our faculty has reached out to us, and we are often exempt from protocols put into place
Hi, Shar. This is a very recent announcement, and more information will be provided ahead of Winter semester once faculty have an opportunity to adjust programming, if necessary. If you have any specific questions, please contact your instructor.
When will the Bookstore be open, at least for online ordering?
Thanks
Hello DavidA and Happy New year to you!
The bookstore is open according to this schedule and the reading list for the winter term is now available.

Is there a reason why the Univeristy has chose to go online for so long when public schools will resume on Jan 10th? We were already out a week longer than the public schools over flood closures. Thanks for your time.
