Final exams are proceeding as scheduled. UFV is monitoring the weather and campuses will be open as scheduled.
Environment Canada has issued special weather statements for the Fraser Valley that predict a transition to rain for most areas this morning with some eastern areas of the Valley seeing a transition to freezing rain.
Please leave extra time for your commute to UFV if you have a face-to-face exam today and commute with extra care. Exercise judgement when making the decision to travel to UFV.
If you make the decision that travelling to UFV cannot be done safely, contact your professor through the channels of communication your class uses (email, blackboard etc.).
Crews are clearing parking lots, walkways, and entrances.
Libraries at both the Abbotsford and Chilliwack campuses have hours posted on this schedule.
An update will be provided at 1030 am Saturday, Dec. 18 at UFV.ca.
Thanks Dave for the update!
Just for anyone coming from Chilliwack:
I left Garrison area around 7:30 this morning – none of the roads were plowed yet (Including Vedder Road). On and off ramps to the highway were packed solid with snow and had some ice patches. It was super sketch until about the #3 Road exit/on-ramp (frozen slush on highway with patches of black ice an what I think was the beginning of freezing rain). There were 3 accidents already that I had counted.
Please everyone leave lots of time to arrive to campus and obey the traffic signs! Go slow.
Thank you for the update and good luck today, Lana! Smart to leave early and to drive slowly.
Be like Lana.
Would it not be safer to shift exams to an online format? It seems like an unnecessary risk to make us drive in during a winter storm.
Thanks for your comment, Gurman.
Changing to online exams on very short notice is very difficult. If you have carefully considered road and weather conditions and determined you cannot make it to your exam safely, then please contact your professor before your exam.
Thanks for the reply Dave, won’t know the conditions until on the road due to changing weather see how it goes. Seems like today would make it worth the hassle to switch to online since the last three- four weeks have been remote but I will take your advice
Hi Gurman. My advice is to carefully evaluate if you can safely drive to the exam and if you simply cannot safely find a way to campus, then communicate with your prof before the exam to get their feedback.
