Thurs. Jan. 16 – 10:30am -All UFV campuses and centres remain closed for today and tonight

**Please note we are experiencing higher than normal site traffic so posting and viewing may be delayed.

All UFV campuses and centres will remain CLOSED and all classes and activities are cancelled for the rest of the day and tonight, Thursday, January 16, 2020. No classes or activities will proceed.

Although some campuses including Abbotsford may be seeing less snow with clearer roads, other regions in the Fraser Valley are experiencing very difficult driving conditions. Environment Canada has also forecast more snow, and freezing rain for this evening. These factors dictate a continuance of the closure from this morning.

Our next update will be at 0545am tomorrow morning.

Please check ufv.ca for updates.

    • Thanks Jason. I didn’t pay you to say that did I?
Thanks for all you do to keep UFV running and tidy. Especially during winter conditions. It can get messy with all that snow coming inside. Nice work.

  1. Good call Dave. Snow dumping down here in aldergrove right now. 1:13 pm. Once again my walk way is covered in snow.

    • Hi S,
I do not make the call – it’s a team effort. They’d never give me that much control 🙂
Actually its a committee that looks at a lot of data early in the morning. Like 4 in the morning early.

We know people commute some distance to attend including on hwy 1 – especially hwy 1 – so we look at these factors for all regions and all campuses including these data points:
o Environment Canada warnings and forecasts
      o RCMP road advisories
      o Drive BC reports
o First hand reports from those who have to drive to campus
      o Media traffic reports
o Reports from 24/7 staff in the security offices who take photos of the campuses and measure snow accumulation, wind speed, and condition of sidewalks etc.
o Ability to clear snow so parking is possible
o Staffing levels and ability to clear snow from sidewalks, walkways etc.
      o School district closures
      o Municipal closures

      Stay warm.. and keep studying.
