Feb 3, 11 am – Winter weather warnings in effect

Environment Canada has issued arctic outflow and snowfall weather warnings for the Fraser Valley.

UFV Risk and Safety, Facilities, Student Services, Communications, and other departments are monitoring the developing weather.

As of Sunday, Feb 3 at 11 am, all UFV campuses are scheduled to be open tomorrow, Monday, February 4. The campus shuttle bus will be operating on its regular schedule.

We will update communication channels (including UFV Alert), and the UFV.ca home page should the situation change, or by 6 am Monday morning.

With unusually low temperatures for this region, please be prepared for cold weather and strong winds. Warm winter clothing and footwear are necessary.

If snow develops, crews will work to clear parking lots, walkways, and entrances.

Please allow extra time when travelling to and around UFV campuses. Exercise your judgement when deciding to travel and be aware that conditions may change during your time on campus. Please drive and commute with care.

  1. Yo it’s a heckin blizzard out here in Chilliwack like 700km/h winds. Like idk about the Abby campus but chilli is hectic. A good lot of snow being dumped too and I can’t see 50yards in front of me face. Idk if it’s safe for Chilliwack campus and getting stuck in the school is not on my agenda. Please remember our safety out here at the trades center and that it’s much more difficult weather for us thank you

    • Hi Brayden. I understand your concern. I work at Chilliwack too. Environment Canada has dropped the snow warning. We’re planning on all classes and activities proceeding as scheduled tomorrow, Monday, Feb. 4. If things change we will alert you here and on UFV.ca. As always, your safety is your main priority so please use your judgement when deciding to travel.

  2. 3:50am it’s blowing hard in Chilliwack! Please remember students that commute through the worst area of the Sumas Prairie to Abby campus. Came through last night in a lg heavy truck and got blown about. Also multi vehicle accident in same area yesterday. I’ve seen that stretch look like a war zone winters 2016 & 2017. If this weather continues as such, please don’t expect students from Chilliwack to attend…I’ll be keeping mine home.

    • Thank you for your comment Lesley. We appreciate your concern. As always, your safety should be your main priority so please use your judgement when deciding to travel.
UFV will be open today, Monday Feb. 4 under winter conditions. We are monitoring the weather including Environment Canada updates and warnings. We also watch for RCMP and Abbotsford Police warnings and updates, and are in contact with the school districts in the Valley. We monitor driving conditions, road reports, highway cameras, and on the ground conditions at all of our campuses. If the situation changes we will post here, on social media, and other UFV communication channels.
