FAQ’s Building B Flood

Q: How do I know if my office has been flooded?  

A: We have sent messages directly to those people whose offices or work areas are flooded. Please check the first link below for an updated list or check the maps (B1 = Building B floor 1, B2 = floor 2, etc.)

Q: My office is listed as damaged, can I get into my office?

A: Yes. You will need to report to the Abbotsford security office Building B – 120 in order to access your office. Security will be available between 8:00 am on Monday, Sept 10 until 6 pm to accompany you.

Even if your office is operational we want you to get to it safely.

Please bring your UFV ID and security will sign you into the building and accompany you to your office to either: 1) assess and record the damage and/or; 2) retrieve personal belongings.

Q: My office is categorized as having “minor damage” what does this mean?

A: This means you should be able to work in your office as you normally would but there may be noise from the drying fans or from repair work. You will need to report to the Abbotsford security office Building B – 120 in order to access your office. Security will be available between 8:00 am on Monday, Sept 10 until 6 pm to accompany you.

Q: Are classes cancelled or moved?

A: No. Classes will take place as scheduled. Any change will be communicated to you by your professor.

Q: Why can’t I retrieve or turn on my computer?

A: While we recognize the inconvenience, until remediation experts can evaluate the electronic integrity of devices, you will not be permitted to remove or turn them on. Damage must be inspected on site in order to comply with insurance protocol. This includes laptops and computers. Plans are underway to provide temporary work spaces and computer resources for those who are displaced. Relocation options will be available Tuesday, Sept 11.

A: Please check with your immediate manager, or supervisor for instruction on this, but the work of the university must continue and alternative arrangements should be agreed upon by you and your manager. Plans are being implemented to relocate offices on Tuesday, September 11.

Q: Where am I going to work?

A: We are still assessing damage and estimating repair times but we will keep you updated as this work progresses.
