My professional development activity consisted of a presentation of a paper at the 27th International Conference of the Friedrich Nietzsche Society at the University of Dundee in Dundee, Scotland. The Friedrich Nietzsche Society is an international and interdisciplinary organization and participants in the conference came from all over the world to attend. The title of the conference was Science, Art, Life, and presenters were expected to comment on how these themes are apparent in Nietzsche’s philosophy. My paper was entitled “Welcome to the Machina: Science as a Form of Life in Nietzsche’s The Birth of Tragedy”.
Overall, the conference proved to be a wonderful experience. Being able to interact with scholars from around the world is a great opportunity and it helps me to continue to improve as a scholar. I would not have been able to take advantage of this opportunity without the aid provided by the UFV professional development fund. It is nice to receive such added support for one’s work.
