Gratitude in the Workplace

Over the past two decades, the field of positive psychology has expanded rapidly, and one of the most discussed areas has been gratitude. We know that people who practice gratitude lead healthier lives both physically and emotionally. We also know that gratitude has a positive impact on both the workforce and workplace. Expressing and receiving gratitude at work directly and indirectly contributes to a culture of cooperative, motivate, and effective employees who give back and feel supported, appreciated, and recognized. The research on workplace gratitude goes deeper than a simple thank you. This session will also address the dark side of gratitude, and disentangle some of the complexities in order to present a balanced view of the topic. By attending, participants will gain awareness on research-based strategies to improve the well-being of employees and the culture of organizations. During this 1-hour wellness session participants will better understand how expressing gratitude positively impacts our health and happiness, discover the benefits of expressing gratitude and appreciation in the workplace and learn strategies to promote gratitude in the workplace.

Unconscious Bias

Everyday, the decisions we make and the workplaces we create are impacted by implicit bias. We are often unaware of when our personal, cultural and institutional biases are at play or of the way that they shape our culture and relationships. Through online discussions, we will examine how our implicit bias affects who we hire, reward, promote and retain. We’ll consider some of the ways that implicit bias shows up in our workplaces and learn some steps to raise awareness of our own biases and to create more inclusive workplaces.

Resilience in a Remote World

This virtual experience explores how to build personal resilience in this unprecedented global situation where we are striving to find new ways to collaborate and contribute to UFV’s success. Levels of stress are sometimes high, changes are often rapid, significant and uncertain leaving many of us feeling overwhelmed. Personal resilience is an essential factor in keeping ourselves well amidst the constant churn. Contrary to what many people think, resilience is not a trait people either have or do not have, rather it involves behaviours, thoughts and actions that can be learned and developed by anyone and anytime. Building resilience is a key human skill and adds both to personal effectiveness at work and to overall well-being. This one-hour session will:

— Explore 8 resilience factors that contribute to well-being

— Help you to identify which factors are strengths

— Highlight the resilience factors that you can boost to enhance your personal well-being

— Provide an opportunity to begin to build a personal resilience strategy

This session will also include pre-work: a short e-learning module to help you review the essential elements that will be discussed in the session. This link will be sent prior to the session and takes approximately 10 minutes to review. Participants will also receive post-session resources on building a personal resilience strategy.
