Just a reminder to everyone that construction zones should not be entered. We will do our best to make it easy for you to spot construction areas, but if in doubt, please avoid the area!
Next up: D Building!
The next building to be done is D Building. Faculty and staff have been packing and we are beginning to remove the landscaping. Over the next couple of weeks, you will see the plants being removed in sections. This will allow for American Robin fledglings to grow and leave the nests.
A-East stairwell going to 4th floor
Scaffolding has been installed going from the third floor to the fourth floor in A-East. The elevator and the stairs at the far end of A-East are still available should you need to go up or down.
The scaffolding will be in place for most of the summer. It is required for the windows at the top of the stair tower to be replaced.
The construction hasn’t stopped!
COVID 19 has hit many sectors; however, construction was deemed an essential service and so UFV’s Building Renewal project has continued. While there have been some hiccups as we moved to social distancing, the work is moving forward quickly. The majority of A-East Phase I is completed with a couple of areas outstanding. Here you can see the final touches being added to the roof turret by Lot 7.
D Building testing
Curious as to what the tented area by D Building has to do with the project? D Building is the next building to be tackled and so we are examining a sample section of the building to ensure a more complete tender document. The area is enclosed both to protect the open building and to contain the dust.
50% complete!
Believe or not, the building is now almost 50% complete! Starting this week, scaffolding will begin to come down on the north side and will move west towards the biology classrooms. As the scaffolding comes down, the panels will be uncovered and the new look will be revealed.
Digital upgrade in A-East
Curious as to the wiring and people on ladders in Building A-East? IT Services is performing digital infrastructure upgrade to improve the quality of service for students, faculty and staff. You should see improved connection speeds and wifi availability.
Building colours revealed
We removed the plastic coating from two of the panels this week and we can now see the look and feel of the panels. The remainder of the panels will be uncovered as the scaffolding begins to come down in a couple of weeks. It will be exciting to see the building come to life!
Spirit Bear Windows
The first of the Spirit Bear windows were installed this week. We hope to open the seating area at the beginning of March with windows to be completed after the scaffolding comes down.
Window testing
As part of the quality checks, window testing was performed on several of the new windows in A-East. Water is sprayed at the window on the outside while a vacuum system tries to pull water into the building. The windows passed the tests and installation is ongoing!
