Convocation may be postponed, but we’re celebrating our graduates

COVID-19 has caused convocation to be postponed, but UFV is determined to celebrate our incredible graduates over the next 10 days in unique and creative ways.

We recognize COVID-19 has stolen the UFV Convocation experience from our students, their families, their supporters, and our faculty and staff. We recognize that until we celebrate in person, this special experience cannot be truly replicated and so we are not having an online or virtual convocation. Instead, we have prepared some great surprises for our grads and for our community.

Student speeches were done via video and will be presented online.

Over the next ten days UFV will publish unique photos, videos (including our President in full regalia delivering awards), blog posts, student speakers’ videos, and other content that has been compiled this month (with social distancing measures in place of course).

Every grad will receive a personal grad celebration box in the mail, decorated with the UFV logo and seal and including:

  • A graduation cap and tassel with the 2020 charm — perfect for social media photos
  • A large Class of 2020 banner with a congratulatory message on the back from the Alumni Association along with a social media campaign invitation.
  • A specially branded package of sustainable, seed-based confetti to match the “celebrate and grow” theme in the box
  • A congratulatory message from President Joanne MacLean.
Dean Alastair Hodges and Health Sciences Dean’s Medalist Navdeep Rai.

For students who fulfilled the requirements of their program, and for those who had not yet received their parchments, these went to Canada Post today, June 18.

Ads have been taken out in local newspapers congratulating the class of 2020.

We will be publishing content in UFV Now e-newsletter and posting to the UFV social media accounts.

Many of you have been involved in this effort and we thank you for your help in celebrating our graduates.
