UFV hires new energy manager

Blair McFarlane
Blair McFarlane is UFV’s new energy manager.

Blair McFarlane has joined UFV as Energy Manager.

Blair comes to the university following energy management roles with the Nanaimo-Ladysmith School District and Fraser Health Authority. He holds a Geography degree from the University of Lethbridge and a Sustainable Energy Management certificate from BCIT.

“We’re very pleased Blair is joining our group,” said Mark Goudsblom, UFV Director of Facilities and Project Management. “Hiring an energy manager strengthens UFV’s commitment to a sustainable future by finding more energy reduction solutions while promoting energy awareness throughout the university community.”

Engagement in energy management at UFV stems from an ongoing focus on the environment and helps reduce utility costs and the carbon footprint across all campuses and locations.

“By incorporating sustainability into UFV’s vision, it sets the stage for an environment where students and staff are involved in shaping and improving their learning and working space,” said McFarlane. “Responsible energy management provides not only an improved environment, but also re-allocates funds for other important uses.”

In his spare time Blair can be found in the mountains looking for remote alpine lakes, or on the coastline searching for the perfect wave to surf.
