SUS seeking nominations for student volunteer, leadership, and clubs & association awards

Hundreds of UFV students selflessly put their scarce time and energies towards enhancing the community for fellow students, and three new awards are now available to recognize this.

The UFV Student Union Society (SUS) is honouring the best of the best in three award categories: leadership, volunteerism, and clubs & associations. Winners will receive their name on a permanent plaque in the SUB, a take home plaque, and a $500 prize. The announcement and presentation of the awards will take place at the SUS Awards & Volunteer Recognition Night, late in the Winter semester, where we hope everyone will gather with us in celebrating the exceptional nominees and award winners.

“UFV wouldn’t be the same without the dedication of countless students committed to this community,” said SUS President Thomas Davies. “It’s critical that we show our appreciation for their work, and allow others to be inspired by student accomplishments.”

The leadership award recognizes a student leader who has been integral to enhancing the UFV community, through collaborative programming, academic support, international integration, or a multitude of other avenues.
The volunteer award highlights an exemplary student volunteer within UFV. The recipient may be in the spotlight or behind the scenes, but regardless of their duties, they will have shown their utmost commitment to the task, going above and beyond what is required.

The club or association award honours a student group that has fulfilled its mandate and improved the experience at UFV for members and/or the broader student body. The recipient group will have built community within its chosen interest area, academic field, and/or UFV, and provided opportunities for students to further their interests and support fellow students or others within the mandate of the group.

“We are particularly pleased to create this opportunity for club and associations, as we had no way to showcase the excellent work of so many organizations,” said Davies. The awards are part of SUS’ 2015-18 Strategic Plan, which includes a focus on increasing support for and recognition of students and student groups.

Nomination forms are available on the SUS website and from SUS offices, and are due by March 11. We strongly encourage students, faculty, and staff to nominate deserving students/clubs/associations for any of these awards.
