Fresh footage capturing outdoor adventures from across the world returns with the Best of the Banff Mountain Film Festival Nov. 26-27 inside Mission’s Clarke Theatre.

Once again spearheaded by UFV kinesiology instructor Roger Friesen, the annual event brings two entirely different film sets each evening, ranging from feature-length films from major organizations such as National Geographic and PBS to shoestring shorts shot in people’s backyards.

“The films cover a wide spectrum of topics from mountain sport, mountain culture, high octane sport, adventure, conservation, ecology, and more,” says Friesen.

“Films of the Banff Film Festival have always served to inspire people.”

Single-night tickets for the Tuesday/Wednesday series are $16, with a discounted rate of $28 for those attending both nights, which start at 7 pm. UFV’s Kinesiology Student Association organizes the event and runs the concession, generating funds for the KPESA, as well as for charity.

Tickets can be purchased at: Wenting Cycle & Mountain Shop in Mission; Valhalla Pure, Western Canoeing & Kayaking, and Lifecycles in Abbotsford; Mt. Waddington outdoor store in Chilliwack; and the UFV Hope centre in Hope.

“People from every corner of the Fraser Valley come together for these two nights to share in the excitement and inspiration which comes through these films. Our show brings together people from our community, retailers from the outdoor recreation sector, guiding services from our part of the world as well as other groups like local search and rescue teams,” Friesen explains.

“I have always seen this as just one more opportunity of getting UFV exposure in our extended community.”
