Lots to do at UFV in September!

Sure, it’s exciting to go to your first classes and meet new people. But there is a lot more to life at UFV than lectures and labs.

And in September, we kick it into high gear.

Here is a non-comprehensive (i.e., sorry if we missed something) guide to activities on our campuses for the next few weeks.

Thurs, Sept 6: Student Life presents a Welcome Back event on the Chilliwack campus that will feature an array of UFV clubs and associations where students can meet leaders and discover opportunities to get involved on campus! 10 am to 2 pm.

Thurs, Sept 6: Student Union Society presents SusPocalypse with Sydney York, Rug Foot, Oh Village, Cory Woodward, and others on the Abby campus green. Dunk tanks, bungee run, obstacle course, etc. 11:30 am to 6 pm.

Fri, Sept 7: UFV Library presents the Chilliwack Library and Learning Commons welcome celebration. Join UFV staff and friends in a celebration of the new UFV Chilliwack Library and Learning Commons at Canada Education Park. The celebration includes an Aboriginal welcome and cedar brushing ceremony, coffee and treats, and tour of the new space. 1 pm, in the atrium just outside the new Chilliwack library and Learning Commons at Canada Education Park.  Light refreshments provided.  For additional information contact the library at 604 795-2824.

Fri, Sept 7: Campus Quest west. Abby campus green. 10 am to 5 pm.

Fri, Sept 7: Humans vs. Zombies. Abby campus green. 5 pm. You must experience this!

Fri, Sept 7: UFV Cascades soccer in Chilliwack! The women’s soccer team’s home opener against Mount Royal Cougars is set for 5 pm, at Exhibition Field, in Chilliwack, BC.  Admission is free to all!

Sat, Sept 8: UFV Cascades soccer in Chilliwack! The women’s soccer team takes on University of Alberta Panda at 5 pm, at Exhibition Field, in Chilliwack, BC.  Admission is free to all!

Mon, Sept 10: Student Life presents  a Welcome Back event on the Abbotsford campus green that will feature an array of UFV clubs and associations where students can meet leaders and discover opportunities to get involved on campus! 12 am to 4 pm.

Mon, Sept 10: Cinema Under the Stars… on the campus green in Abbotsford at dusk. Men in Black 2!

Wed, Sept 12: First day of CHILLPocalypse! Free food! Movie night, BBQ, magic show, theatre play, games, inflatables, Humans vs Zombies, huge prizes and more! New Chilliwack campus at CEP. Times vary, throughout the day.

Wed, Sept 12: Students receiving awards will have gotten an invitation to Changing Lives Awards Ceremony. This event brings donors and student award recipients together with an opportunity to meet, share, and hear personal stories of how their donations make a difference. Ramada Inn, Abbotsford. 5 pm. Invitation only.

Thurs, Sept 13: Second day of CHILLPocalypse! With Pardon My Striptease, The Corrupted Gentlemen, Solid Red, Oh Village and You-tube star Andrew Huang. New Chilliwack campus at CEP. Times vary, throughout the day.

Fri, Sept 14: Aftermath party at Aftermath social house on Abby campus. 3 to 11 pm.

Fri, Sept 14: The UBC Thunderbirds will be the opponent as UFV kicks off the men’s soccer season at Exhibition Field, in Chilliwack, BC.  Match time is set for 7:15 pm. Free admission.

Thurs, Sept 20: The big shebang! Come See What’s New at your U! Like a housewarming… for a university. We’ve got new digs and we want to show them off.  New UFV buildings and campus green at the Chilliwack campus at Canada Education Park. 2–8 pm. Free party at your U! Bring your friends and family. Fun activities for all ages: health and wellness displays, kids zone, eco marketplace, food truck festival, sports zone, alumni photo booth, and more! Check out some great bands on our outdoor entertainment stage! Tour the new building and learn about our programs! Fireworks* at 8 pm. Thank you for supporting UFV in your community. For more information, email auriel.heron@ufv.ca .Seating is limited. Bring a blanket or lawnchairs so you can enjoy the main stage and fireworks display comfortably. If you plan on doing some shopping, we recommend you bring cash. *Fireworks are weather permitting.

Fri, Sept 21: BC Jobs Fair at UFV Clearbrook Centre connecting British Columbians with career information, employment services, job banks and local job events

Fri, Sept 21: Theatresports! The professional improv artists from Vancouver are back in town to tickle your funnybone once again. There will also be a Theatresports workshop by the Vancouver professionals held on Fri, Sept. 23 in the theatre on the Chilliwack Yale Road (North) campus at 3 pm at a cost of $15. Members of the public are welcome to take this workshop. Tickets for the performance are $18 regular and $14 for students and seniors For tickets and more information, call 604-795-2814 or email theatre@ufv.ca

Fri, Sept 21: Free film  — Monty Python and the Holy Grail — by the Association of History Students. 7 pm, Abby B101

Thurs, Sept 27: Voices for Peace concert. A free concert featuring cello, chamber music and poetry to celebrate the development of the Peace Studies program at UFV. Donations to the Dr. John and Erna Friesen Peace Studies Collection at the UFV library are welcomed. Fri, Sept 28: UFV women’s soccer hosts Manitoba. 5 pm. UFV men’s soccer hosts Saskatchewan. 7:15 pm. Exhibition Field in Chilliwack. Free admission.

Sat, Sept 29: Alumni Day. Women’s soccer: alumni vs. alumni: 3 pm, Exhibition field.

Sat, Sept 29: UFV women’s soccer hosts Winnipeg. 5 pm. UFV men’s soccer hosts Alberta. 7:15 pm. Exhibition Field in Chilliwack. Free admission
