Staying true to its motto of “serving the community’s greatest needs”, the Langley Kinsmen Club has donated $52,000 to the University of the Fraser Valley to establish an award in its name. The Kinsmen Club of Langley Endowment Bursary will be available to students who have completed their highest level of education within the Langley School District, have financial need, and can demonstrate a proven commitment to volunteerism and community service.
The Kinsmen Club of Langley has a proud history that spans over 67 years. It has been a pillar of community service and leadership in the Langley area and surrounding communities since 1945. Members have logged countless hours of volunteer time in raising funds for important causes, community needs, and initiatives.
“The establishment of this award is yet another example how the Kinsmen Club’s commitment to helping others, specifically young people, exemplifies a rich legacy of generosity and giving back to those in need,” says Madeleine Hardin, UFV executive director of development.
“The Langley Kinsmen firmly believe in our youth as our future and we welcome the opportunity to sponsor a perpetual bursary to Langley students who have the volunteer spirit,” says Scot Jackson, Langley Kinsmen Vice-President. “Partnering with the University of the Fraser Valley is a perfect fit for us. The Kinsmen Club of Langley Endowment Bursary is a legacy not only to help our community’s youth, but also to honour our Langley Kinsmen predecessors who we recognize for their contribution to the community. We trust that the recipients of the award will carry on contributing to their communities for generations to come.”
“It is amazing to see the impact one can make in a student’s life through the gift of education,” notes Hardin. “Universities change lives. The University of the Fraser Valley aims to do just that. By striving to provide the best undergraduate education in Canada, UFV aims to change the lives of our students, providing them with the skills and tools they need to excel in whatever path they choose. It is through the generous support of our donors, like the Langley Kinsmen Club, that help us realize our goal of inspiring young people to become our future leaders.”
