The Writer’s Weekend was a sunny success. UFV’s first Continuing Studies programming in Hope in over a decade saw 12 participants take in a weekend of writing around the fireside and breaking for outdoor activities such as walks and outdoor wood-stove pizza lunch.
“We had an enthusiastic group of writers who took advantage of all of our workshops within the weekend and woke up early to start writing at 6:30 am and wrote into the night. Our evening session ended at 11:30 pm,” says Michelle Vandepol. Within the weekend were two contests (one for microfiction and one for crafting the most compelling query letter) with prizes that were voted on by the whole group.
Camp Kawkawa was a fantastic host, whipping up late night snacks and providing comfortable accommodation. Feedback indicating interest in another weekend and similar shorter weekend courses was high.
UFV Hope will be offering another Writer’s Weekend in April 2014. Writing courses leading up to the weekend will take place on Saturdays at UFV’s Hope centre.
Planned for 2014 are:
- Back to the Basics. Mark Friesen. Jan 18 & 25.
- Blogging 101. Michelle Vandepol. Feb 15
- Developing your Writing. Allison Kilgannon. March 8
