Dr. Lenore Newman, UFV’s Canada Research Chair in Food Security and the Environment, this year’s recipient of the Vancouver Farmers’ Markets Award for Leadership in Food Security.
The award is in recognition of advocacy work on the issue of farmland preservation.
Presented at the Vancouver Farmers’ Markets Annual General Meeting, the Devorah Kahn Award for Leadership in Food Security in our Region is given in honour of Devorah Kahn, the first executive director of VFM.
Past recipients include Susan Davidson of Glorious Organics and Organic Farm Connection, Forstbauer Farms of Chilliwack, the University of British Columbia Farm team, Herb Barbolet (founder of Farm Folk City Folk), HB Lanarc Sustainable Planning Ltd. and SOLEFood Farm.
VFM was founded in 1995 and now operates seven markets in Vancouver.
