Dear colleagues,
As part of our ongoing effort to manage technology investments responsibly and support UFV’s sustainability and financial goals, IT Services is updating the computer refresh cycle for university-managed devices.
Effective in 2026, UFV will operate on a five-year computer replacement cycle, replacing most university-issued computers every five years instead of four.
Why we’re making this change
Financial stewardship: Extending the lifecycle reduces annual replacement costs and helps UFV make the most of our existing technology budget.
Support readiness: All UFV computers will continue to receive full warranty coverage and technical support throughout their extended lifecycle.
What this means for you
You’ll continue to receive regular updates and support from the IT Service Desk.
Devices will be evaluated for performance and reliability as they approach five years of use. If your computer experiences issues or can’t meet UFV’s technical requirements, we will access the hardware to ensure it meets UFV technical requirements.
There’s no action required on your part at this time. IT will contact you directly when your device is scheduled for replacement.
Our commitment
IT Services is committed to ensuring all faculty and staff have reliable, secure, and high-performing technology. We’ll monitor the impact of this change closely and adjust if needed to maintain productivity and teaching quality.
If you have any questions, please contact the IT Service Desk at itservicedesk.ufv.ca or visit our portal for more information about the Employee Refresh Program.
Thank you for your understanding and partnership as we continue to modernize UFV’s technology in a sustainable and cost-effective way.
