Sad news: Amy Prevost has passed away

Many at UFV will be saddened to hear of the recent passing of Dr. Amy Prevost of the UFV School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, on December 3, 2024, at the age of 46.

Amy earned her PhD in Criminology from Simon Fraser University in 2011.

She started at UFV’s School of Criminology and Criminal Justice (then the Criminal Justice department) in fall 2004 as a sessional and was hired permanently in fall 2005.

She served as Director of the school from 2013 to 2017.

Amy was a popular associate professor with criminology and criminal justice students. Courses she taught included CRIM 100 (Introduction to Criminology), CRIM 105 (Psychological Explanations of Crime and Deviant Behaviour), and CRIM 216 (Psychopathy and the Criminal Justice System). Her passion for teaching could be felt by everyone who was fortunate enough to be in the classroom with her.

In addition to her work at UFV, Amy was dedicated to the delivery of educational programming in correctional facilities and was a long-serving member of the Matsqui Citizens Advisory Committee.

Dr. Zina Lee, Director of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice, passed along condolences on behalf of Amy’s colleagues and students.

“The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice is devastated at losing a great colleague, mentor, and friend,” Zina said. “Amy’s strength in fighting cancer was how she approached her time in the School: she fought for students and what was right, and always had the best interests of others at heart. The way she connected with students in the classroom will leave a void that cannot be replaced. Our thoughts are with her family, friends, and colleagues.”

Amy leaves her loving husband Wade Davies, a beautiful daughter Amelia, and two lovely stepchildren, Lily and Ethan.
