Join Us for Giving Tuesday 2024: Supporting Students in Need — Dec 3

On Dec 3, the University of the Fraser Valley will join the global Giving Tuesday movement to raise $10,000 for the Student Support and Resilience Fund. This vital fund serves as a lifeline for students experiencing food insecurity, housing instability, and other urgent needs.

For UFV students, life’s unpredictable challenges can quickly become barriers to their education. Imagine navigating an economic crisis as a student: losing your job, facing a sudden car repair bill, or finding yourself without stable housing. The Student Support and Resilience Fund provides emergency relief, helping students cover basic needs so they can stay focused on their studies.

As Mallory Manley, Manager, Student Support Centre shared:

“I’ve seen first-hand how emergency funding can make a difference between a student staying in school or withdrawing. It provides relief when students need it most — like finding a safe place to stay or covering essentials after a sudden job loss.”

Why Your Support Matters

With rising living costs and economic pressures, more students are in need of immediate assistance than ever before. Last year, the UFV-SUS Food Bank saw a sharp rise in requests, reflecting the increasing food insecurity faced by students. This year, our focus expands to address housing instability and other emergencies, ensuring no student is left behind.

Ways to Get Involved

  1. Donate on Giving Tuesday: Visit the Giving Tuesday webpage on Dec 3 to make a gift. Every dollar helps a student focus on their education instead of urgent financial concerns.
  2. Sign Up for Payroll Deductions: For UFV employees, small, regular donations through payroll can create a sustained impact. Visit the Employee Giving webpage for details.
  3. Spread the Word: Join us in making an impact this Giving Tuesday by sharing @goUFV’s social posts with your network on Dec 3. Your participation helps raise awareness and encourages others to give back.

By joining together as a UFV community of faculty, staff, alumni, and friends, we can ensure students have the resources they need to overcome life’s challenges.

Let’s show UFV students they are supported every step of the way.
