The UFV Modern Languages Institute Halq’eméylem program is pleased to be hosted the Upriver Halq’eméylem Translation Contest on Friday, April 30. In these extraordinary times, this years’ contest was completely virtual via Zoom. Over 190 students representing school districts from all over the Fraser Valley, Sts’ailes and Seabird Island Community School participated by using the ‘Learning Branch’ program to assess phrases and sounds of the Upriver Halq’eméylem language. Keynote Speaker from Iwesteleq, Thomas Jones, from Snuneymuxw First Nations, joined us for this event.
