On Monday, March 19 one of Peter Raabe’s former students visited his philosophy for counsellors (PHIL 367) class in the role of guest speaker. Devan Christian graduated from UFV with a philosophy major, and then went on to Adler University to get her Master of Counselling Psychology. She is now a very busy Registered Clinical Counsellor. She explained to students how rewarding her work is, both at Fraser Mental Health and in her private practice. She said her studies in philosophy prepared her well for the may areas in counselling she has to deal with, from end of life issues, to relationship problems, and suicide prevention. Devan also answered many student questions on practical issues such as how to prepare academically for the work, and how to establish a counselling practice in the Fraser Valley area.
