Desiree Blankenberg will be joining UFV on Jan 8 in the position of Associate Director, Centre for Accessibility Services (formerly Disability Resource Centre).
Desiree has a Master of Education degree from the University of Alberta in Special Education (2000). Desiree is also a certified school psychologist recognized by the BC Association of School Psychologists (2009).
Since 2008, Desiree has been working as an educational psychologist with the Burnaby School District, providing leadership regarding learning supports to schools, identification and diagnoses of various disabilities, and counselling around special needs supports. Prior to this, Desiree held positions at several post-secondary institutions, including: Disability Services Coordinator at Vancouver Career College (Sept. 2006-Dec. 2008), where she supported students and supervised disability advisors, tutors and interpreters; and as a provisional psychologist at the University of Alberta (Oct. 2000-Aug. 2006), where she administered psycho-educational assessments to students registering with disability services, and provided consulting services to learning strategists in developing independent learning plans for students. Desiree also held the position of educational psychologist at The Maples Adolescent Assessment and Intervention Centre (2009-2013) assessing and supporting students with mental health diagnoses.
