UFV’s Modern Languages department is launching a new Linguistics and Language Studies associate certificate in September 2026.
This 12-credit credential introduces students to the study of language, including how language is structured, learned, and used in diverse cultural and social contexts. Students take courses in linguistics alongside a 200-level language course in areas such as Spanish, French, Japanese, Halq’eméylem, Punjabi and others.
The certificate can be completed in as few as two semesters and can be taken on its own or alongside another UFV program. It is a flexible option for students interested in language, communication, cultural diversity, Indigenous and world languages, TESL, education, intercultural communication, community work, or related fields.
Students may also take Linguistics courses independently from the certificate.
