From Evidence to Action: Symposium on Canada’s Response to Non-Fatal Strangulation — May 13-15

Please join us May 13-15 on the UFV Abbotsford campus for the inaugural symposium on strangulation prevention and response in Canada.

This gathering from 1-3 pm each day in Building B (room B101) takes place during Victims and Survivors of Crime Week 2026, with funding from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council, and the Department of Justice Canada’s Victims Fund.

The symposium will feature keynote presentations and skill-building workshops about strangulation research, policy, and practice in Canada, including: supporting survivors who have experienced strangulation and brain injury; criminal justice system responses to strangulation as a form of abuse; strangulation trends in police, forensic nursing, and healthcare samples; strangulation case law; and “consensual” sexual strangulation.

– May 14th in-person networking reception (free but advance registration required due to space limitations)

The symposium is targeted towards practitioners, service providers, policymakers, and researchers in Canada.
