Join Dr. James Mandigo for a compelling edition of the President’s Leadership Lecture Series, featuring a keynote address from the Honourable Randeep Sarai, Secretary of State for International Development and Member of Parliament for Surrey Centre.

Together, they will explore what it means to lead, collaborate, and create impact in an increasingly complex global landscape, and why global engagement matters now more than ever.

Following the keynote, hear directly from students in UFV’s Global Development Studies program during a panel discussion as they share what global citizenship means to them, why it matters, and how they see their role in shaping a more connected and just world.

About The Honourable Randeep Sarai:

The Honourable Randeep Sarai is the Member of Parliament for Surrey Centre and currently serves as Canada’s Secretary of State for International Development. First elected in 2015, he has built a strong record of public service focused on advancing equity, global cooperation, and community well-being .

Prior to his current role, he served as Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Veterans Affairs and Associate Minister of National Defence, contributing to initiatives supporting veterans and national service members.

Born in Vancouver to Sikh immigrant parents from Punjab, India, Sarai brings lived experience and a deep commitment to inclusive leadership to his work. He holds an undergraduate degree in political science from the University of British Columbia and a law degree from Queen’s University. Before entering politics, he practised law, building a foundation in advocacy and public service.

Throughout his career, Sarai has been deeply engaged in community development. His efforts include co-founding Virsa – Supporting Youth Strengthening Families Society, supporting crime prevention initiatives, raising funds to combat polio, and helping organize food drives and community infrastructure projects, reflecting a lifelong dedication to improving quality of life for underserved communities.
