Guest Speaker Event — Another ‘Walt’ is Possible: Pluriversal Sovereignty, Imperial Political Economy, and Decolonial Development

UFV students, faculty, staff, and community members are invited to attend a guest speaker event on Feb. 25, 2026, in B101, from 2:30-4 pm. Dr. Ajay Parasram, an associate professor in International Development Studies and History from Dalhousie University (unceded Kjipuktuk), will be speaking on pluriversal sovereignty, imperial political economy, and decolonial development. Ajay is a transnational, multigenerational byproduct of the British empire, with roots in South Asia, the southern Caribbean, and across Turtle Island. He is the author of the award-winning 2023 book, Pluriversal Sovereignty and the State: Imperial Encounters in Sri Lanka. On Feb. 25, Ajay will speak about his current work, which includes an alternative radical reframing of “development studies.”
