Taking care of your UFV-issued laptop computer

Here are a few helpful reminders to keep your UFV laptop running smoothly and make sure it stays in good shape throughout its lifecycle.

  • Keep it safe: Try not to leave your laptop unattended, especially in vehicles. Most thefts happen when laptops are left in cars, even for a short time.
  • No stickers: While it might be tempting to personalize your device, adding stickers or adhesives can interfere with repairs or replacement down the road.
  • Clean gently and regularly: A quick wipe with a soft, dry cloth can help keep the screen and keyboard in good condition.
  • Care for the battery: Use your charger when possible to help extend battery life.
  • Be cautious around food and drinks: Avoid eating or drinking near your laptop, and use a carrying case when transporting it.
  • Leave repairs to us: If something’s not working right, please submit a ticket to the UFV IT Service Desk, www.itservicedesk.ufv.ca
  • Lost or stolen? Let us know: If your laptop goes missing, report it to Campus Security and local police, then let IT Services know right away so we can help secure any data.
