UFV recognizes Canada’s National Day of Mourning — Apr 28

Canada’s National Day of Mourning takes place on Monday, April 28 and marks remembrance of workers who have been injured or killed in workplace accidents or from occupational disease. University flags will be flown at half-staff this day.

Accidents and deaths continue to occur in workplaces. The latest statistics from WorkSafe BC (2023) indicate 175 British Columbians died from workplace injury or disease.

UFV is committed to providing safe and healthy working and learning environments. We hope the National Day of Mourning raises awareness of the devastating consequences of workplace injuries and occupational diseases.

For more information on how you can help make UFV a safe community and how to report incidents and hazards please visit the Environmental Health & Safety webpage.

April 28 is also an opportunity to renew our ongoing commitment to preventing workplace injuries and illnesses and to continue our collective efforts to make UFV a safe and injury free community.

Sincerely,
Jason Dallavalle
