Frozen Moments of Timeless Travel: Archival Glimpses into the Beginnings of the ‘Valley Art Gallery’ (1978-1987) is on display at the S’eliyemetaxwtexw Art Gallery until Thursday, April 10.
The gallery is on the UFV Abbotsford campus in room B136.
To mark the occasion, a reception and throwback dance party takes place Thursday from 3-6 pm with a ‘Back to the 80s’ theme. 1980s styles are encouraged, and music requests are being accepted at sag.gallery@ufv.ca.
This exhibit invites you to step back into the earliest days of what is now the S’eliyemetaxwtexw Art Gallery.
Frozen Moments of Timeless Travel traces the first decade of the gallery—then called the Valley Art Gallery—through newspaper clippings, repeating images, and nearly lost documentation from the early years of Fraser Valley College.
Playful collage, visual echoes, and curated fragments reimagine how exhibitions were recorded, remembered, or overlooked. What remains becomes a story in itself—and an invitation to imagine what’s missing.
Browse curious clippings, dig into forgotten shows, and try your hand at making a collage on the overhead projector. There’s lots to discover.
