Campus Planning and the IT team is going to be shutting down the entire UFV network, which will impact all of UFV operations.
What do I need to know?
Significant IT outage and power outage are scheduled for Saturday, November 30, 2024.
Where and when?
Electricity will be shut down to Abbotsford Building B from Nov 30, 9:30 pm to Dec 1, 12:30 am.
IT services will be suspended on all campuses between Nov 30, 6:30 pm and Dec 1, 5:30 am.
Services Impacted:
All power to building B will be disconnected. This will impact the temperature control units, and building maintenance systems, etc.
The IT outage will impact
– Internet service for all campuses
– Telephone service (excluding red emergency phones)
– Remote desktop connections
– Banner, FAST, myUFV, and the UFV website
Will student/employee email & myClass services be available?
Yes, provided a campus internet connection isn’t required to access during scheduled outages.
Are the power and IT outages related?
Yes. To complete the final stage of the power upgrades required for the new equipment in the Dining Hall kitchen upgrade, new switches are required to be added to an electrical panel. The IT network is connected to the panel being updated and is required to be shutdown.
What about Security?
UFV Safety and Security will continue to be available 24 hours a day at 1-855-239-7654.
For all those working on site Friday and/or Saturday by end of day, please turn off workstations and all non-critical electrical equipment to ensure all non-essential workstations and computers are turned off before the outage to prevent hardware damage. If applicable, ensure all systems are connected to surge protectors to avoid damage when the power is restored.
