What do I need to know?
New password criteria is coming for UFV employees.
When will it happen?
ITS will implement the password change process gradually over a two-week period beginning Monday, September 16. Please wait until you receive the prompt to change your password.
How will I update my password?
Employees will be prompted to update their password when logging in to their UFV device or signing in to a UFV application.
What systems will require the new password?
All UFV applications will use the new password.
This includes but is not limited to:
- Workstation log-on
- Eduroam Wi-Fi – This will require you to forget the Eduroam network and reconnect (Helpful info regarding Eduroam).
- Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook and Teams (Helpful info regarding M365 applications).
- Personal Devices – including your mobile phone (Helpful info regarding your mobile device)
- myUFV
What’s the new password criteria?
Your new password must adhere to the following guidelines:
- Contain a minimum of fourteen (14) characters.
- Use a “passphrase” – consists of a sequence of words or a sentence. The passphrase should be easy for you to remember, but not easy to guess. Ex. “HorseJumpFence” or “BananasHealthy”
Why are we changing our password?
As part of our ongoing commitment to enhancing digital systems security and safeguarding sensitive data, the Office of the Chief Information Officer (OCIO) is implementing a proactive measure in alignment with the recommendation from the British Columbian OCIO and requiring a password update for all employees across UFV.
What if I’m not prompted by ITS to change my password by the end of September?
If you have not been prompted to change your password after the two-week period, please restart your computer or log out and then back into your Microsoft 365 applications.
Will students need to change their passwords too?
No, students already adhere to a strong password policy.
