The Political Science department cordially invites you to POLITALK SPECIAL LECTURE: What’s up with Parliament

As another Parliamentary session begins, the Trudeau Liberal government is faced with a series of policy challenges. From a healthcare system in crisis to rising crime rates and economic hardship caused by inflation, the government has its work cut out for it. Our expert panel brings together voices from Political Science and Economics to give informed commentary on how Parliament is handling these challenges.

Speaker Profile:

Dr. Noah S. Schwartz is an assistant professor of Political Science at the University of the Fraser Valley. His scholarship focuses on advocacy groups, social movements, and firearms policy in Canada and the United States. He is the author of On Target: Gun Culture, Storytelling & the NRA, as well as several journal articles and op-eds.

Dr. Hamish Telford is an associate professor of political science at the University of the Fraser Valley. He is the author of Engaging Canadian Politics (Northrose, 2021), and Talking Past Each Other: Quebec and the Federal Dialogue in Canada, 1867-2017 (Peter Lang, 2018). He is a past president of the BC Political Studies Association, and he twice served on the board of the Canadian Political Science Association.

An instructor since 2003, Dr. Michael Maschek has lectured in courses of economic principles at the introductory, intermediate, and advanced levels as well as field courses in areas that included Canadian economic policy and environmental economics. Additionally, Michael created the first course in behavioural economics to be taught at Simon Fraser University.
