Continuous Improvements for Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)

Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) was introduced to all UFV employees and students in 2021 and IT Security recently expanded our MFA protection to include additional applications you may use such as Blackboard and self-serve services within myUFV.

The IT Cyber Security team has recognized that some users have been prompted to authenticate every day, rather than the planned 14-day schedule. Following your feedback, we have investigated with Microsoft Support and have reconfigured the system to prompt you every 14 days when using the same device. This should reduce the number of times you are asked to use MFA to authenticate. Applications, such as Blackboard, have a separate sign-in and session timeout, so you will continue to be prompted for your password when you first open them and if you use them for an extended period.

Thank you to all employees and students for providing feedback to help us improve our MFA protection on and off campus.

Did you know?
Employees and Students can verify their identity using the Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) method of their choice such as the Microsoft Authenticator app, phone call, text message or a smart card such as a Yubi Key.
