Artist Talk: Mitchell Wiebe. Wednesday, Oct 6, from 1-2 pm. A co-hosted event with The Reach Gallery Museum
Halifax-based artist Mitchell Wiebe is currently exhibiting his major touring exhibition VampSites at The Reach Gallery Museum in Abbotsford. Combining the artist’s distinctive paintings with an installation of “parasitic architecture”, VampSites is an experiment in exhibition as temporary occupation. Wiebe openly embraces an artificial and attention-grabbing mode of address; he loves the cheap attraction of the funhouse, the appeal to regressive fantasy, and exuberance with a touch of poison.
Join Wiebe and The Reach’s Curator of Art & Visual Culture Adrienne Fast for a wide-ranging conversation about Wiebe’s practice in painting, installation, and performance, the role of camp and gaudy expression in the contemporary art world, and how the artist’s experience with subterranean cold war architecture has influenced his work.
Tickets are free. Register at https://www.eventbrite.ca/e/artist-talk-with-mitchell-wiebe-registration-173053897867
Attendees will receive a confirmation email with a Zoom link and password 1-2 days prior to the event’s start date.
