BFA Grad Exhibition: Albert Woods, Kimberly Vandenberg & Candice McPherson
on view at the S’eliyemetaxwtexw Art Gallery

Exhibition continues October 14-November 4, 2020

The S’eliyemetaxwtexw Art Gallery will be showcasing part two of three from our series of BFA Grad Exhibitions, featuring Albert Woods, Kimberly Vandenberg and Candice McPherson from October 14 – November 4, 2020.

Albert Woods, Anthropos Morphos series, mixed media, 2020. This installation addresses communities’ unwitting participation in the broken systems that benefit government and corporate entities who place financial gains over individuals’ basic rights and freedoms.

Kimberly Vandenberg, Return Passage to Equilibrium, acrylic on canvas, 2020. This painting series explores themes of colonization, loss, and resilience. Each painting is connected to the stories and memories of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls.

Candace McPherson, These Images are Inspired by True Events, digital print on aluminum, 2020. Paintings from the Pre-Raphaelite era that are based on literature and folklore portray women with passive gazes and sensuous figures, bringing attention solely to their youth and beauty. The female characters depicted in the photographs represent a modern woman who is devoid of the pre-set beauty standards commonly seen within paintings of this era.
