Online Orientation released to all UFV students

A message from the Orientation team

Smart Start Module 1: Culture and Conduct, was released to students on August 26.

In the coming weeks, we are planning a rolling release of modules 2-4 of the Blackboard online orientation course so students have time to complete these self-guided modules before the start of classes. The release schedule of each module is dependent on the amount of new and changing information and resources we need to share with students, the suggestions and feedback we receive from our partners, and the capacity of our (small) team to deliver these modules to students in a timely manner.

If you would like to see these modules for yourself, or be involved in the upcoming short-term feedback process for modules 3 and 4, you can self-enroll in the Smart Start preview course created for UFV staff and faculty by following the steps below.

How to access the Smart Start Course Preview:

Simply self-enroll in the Smart Start preview course called “STEC_Orient: Smart Start Orientation Preview” to get access to the modules. To do this, follow the steps below.

  1. Log into Blackboard
  2. Click on the “courses” tab in the top right
  3. Type “Smart Start Orientation Preview” in the search tab in the top left
  4. Click on the small down arrow to the right of the course title and select “enroll”
  5. Select “submit”

Thank you to all of you who took the time to review our module 1 draft and provide us with your valuable feedback. We are pleased with the depth of information and overall student experience we were able to create in the first module of this pilot program, which really sets the tone for students’ first experience of UFV before the start of classes this Fall.  We did our best to incorporate as many suggestions as possible in time for the release, and intend to continue collecting long-term feedback in order to continue to improve this course over the next year and beyond to best meet the needs of our students.

For more information about the information we plan to cover in upcoming Smart Start modules, visit our website at www.ufv.ca/smartstart. To find out when each module is released to students, follow UFV NSO on social media on InstagramFacebook, or Twitter!

Sincerely,

The Orientation Team
