Sikh martial art exhibition — March 27

The Sikh Student Alliance of UFV invites you to an afternoon of Gatka at the Sikh Martial Art Exhibition!

Gatka is a Sikh martial art for the purpose of self defense along with the Sikh concept of Sarbat Da Bhala, which means to work towards the well being and prosperity of everyone. The martial art uses bamboo sticks to simulate combat with swords and various other blades.

There will be multiple demonstrations of the art by local Gatka teams at various times. In addition, there will be a unique display of antique weapons. Everyone is encouraged to come by to see the demonstrations and antiques. You can ask us questions about the martial art and about Sikhi. We will also be raising awareness of human rights issues concerning Sikhs in Punjab and Canada.

Free Jalebi, a sweet food common in Punjab, will be given to anyone that shows up. So come along, talk to us and look at the displays! Bring others along too!

Wed, March 27
1:30 to 4:30 pm
Evered Hall in Student Union Building at UFV Abbotsford
