Samantha Pattridge has been appointed to the role of acting Associate Dean of Students in the College of Arts. Samantha will assume this position until December 31. Samantha joined UFV in 2005, after teaching several years at BCIT and in Alberta. She has an MA in English from the University of Alberta and an MSc in Writing and Cultural Politics from the University of Edinburgh. She is also an alumna of UFV, having attended UFV for the first two years of her BA before transferring to SFU.
Samantha has a passion for teaching. She has focused much of her professional development on becoming a better educator and on helping others to realize their teaching potential. Part of this journey has involved becoming an ISW Network certified trainer.
Samantha’s experience at other institutions, often in leadership roles, allowed her to assume active faculty leadership roles at UFV. She has been a member of the Undergraduate Education Committee since 2007, and was its chair for the transformative years of its transition from UPAC. Samantha led the Curriculum Quality subcommittee that created a set of guiding principles for the institution’s curriculum development and approval, and she wrote the Teaching and Learning Centre’s outcomes booklet. She has also been a member of committees such as the Scheduling and Registration Task Force, the Internationalization Committee, the Humanities Division Review Committee for rank and tenure, and the new International Student Task Force.
As department head of Communications for the past six years, Samantha has been intimately involved in the workings of the College of Arts. She has led the Communications department through the creation of a degree proposal and a program review. In 2016, she won the Inspirational Leadership Award, for which her department nominated her.
Samantha is passionate about student success through smart and creative curriculum design. She is excited to bring that passion to the College of Arts team in the upcoming year.
