The founding member of UFV’s Kinesiology and Physical Education department has taken on a new role as President of Algoma University in Sault St. Marie, Ontario.
As of 1 July 2015, Dr. Craig Chamberlin became the third President and first Vice-Chancellor of Algoma University.
Many at UFV will remember Chamberlin from when he served as the founding head of the KPE department, back in the UCFV days. For over a decade, from 1991 to 2002, he worked to build the department, hire staff and faculty, and develop unique and creative curricula.
Chamberlin arrived at Algoma University after spending 13 years at the University of Regina where he was an associate professor in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies. While at the University of Regina, Chamberlin held several administrative roles, including Dean of the Faculty of Kinesiology and Heath Studies for ten years, and Dean of the Faculty of Social Work for two years, a position he held concurrently with his duties within the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies. Chamberlin was instrumental in helping build a model curriculum, engaging the community, and upgrading the University of Regina’s kinesiology, health, and recreation facilities to become a prototype used among other post-secondary institutions.
